Broken Traditions

This Christmas was another weird one for me. My mother is actually out of town visiting one of my brother's so that he won't be alone on Christmas. At first I was kind of upset about it but then I thought how depressing the holiday would be having to spend it alone. This isn't the first holiday i've spent without my mother. I have two younger brother's who live out of town, one 5 hours away and one 8. They come down when they can but sometimes they're just not able to. Being that my husband has a job that restricts vacation in the months of November and December we are pretty much screwed on ever having a holiday away from home. So, this means more future holidays without my family which gives Manda a sad face.

Our normal Christmas traditions include getting together with all the aunts, uncles, and cousin's at my grandpa's house for food and snacks in the evening. We then open presents there from the family and then go back to my mom's for more presents. Christmas Day there is usually a lunch or a dinner. This year, however, since my aunts were planning it they changed everything. There was dinner on Christmas Eve instead of Day which meant that there was no get together on the Day with my family.

Christmas with the in-laws is an entirely different affair which consists of going to whatever restaurant happens to be open. We ate at the China Star restaurant and it was a Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra Christmas Story indeed! It SO did not feel like Christmas this year.

  2. We had a weird Christmas as well. We expected something better but then it didn't happen. I think everyone is feeling pretty bummed about it. So here's to hoping next year is better for us!
